Health and Wellness Books

Green for Life by Victoria Boutenko
This book is great for anyone who wants a simple way to boost their health and wellness by putting more greens and fruits into their diet. She presents some very compelling research! Basically just throw some green leafy vegetables and fruits into a blender make 1 or 2 green smoothies a day and viola... you are feeling healthier. Just after reading this, Santa brought a powerful strong blender and now our days usually start with a green smoothie. The other day our 15 year old even asked for one after school! Even though I may not be as hard core as Victoria, I'm grateful for her research and inspiring stories that have been a catalyst to put more fruits and greens in our diet! I definitely feel better and have more energy and have even lost a few pounds to boot!

Clean by Dr. Alejandro Junger
Dr. Junger, is a cardiologist who questioned the approach of only treating the symptoms in the medical profession. Instead, he followed his intuition and opened his mind to a more holistic approach to medicine, health and wellness. He found through his personal practice that allowing the body to naturally detoxify itself once in awhile produced remarkable improvements in his patient's health as well as his own.
Clean outlines a 3 week program where certain foods are eliminated like sugar, gluten, dairy products, alcohol and caffeine. Liquid or pureed meals are taken morning and evening with a regular lunch (excepting the elimination foods). This allows the body to recover from the massive job of digesting food and detoxify naturally by flushing out more waste products. Three weeks once or twice a year isn't particularly arduous - although you may have to limit your social life a bit during that time. It's not a weight loss diet per se but many people find that they lose some weight from it anyway. I like that it's a safe, well-rounded and cleansing diet that gives me more energy and clarity of mind.

Pain Free by Pete Egoscue
Egoscue is an anatomical physiologist who has come up with a series of exercises in this book designed to re-align your body to its best and most natural structural alignment from head to toe. He includes specific exercises for all areas of your body. He emphasizes strengthening muscles to balance each other out appropriately. He also recommends movement in his exercises to get the body used to doing things outside of its habitual range of motion. And finally his exercises also add flexibility to the body so that muscles once again are in balance with each other.
It doesn't matter whether you are looking for pain relief or looking to increase your athletic performance, there are exercises here that can help you re-align your body for better overall functional health and wellness within your body.
